HISTORY

CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion is the direct service provider for various workforce programs which are supported by the U.S. Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and other agencies as part of awards totaling $6.9 million for FY24 (revised annually). Unless otherwise stipulated, all statements, press releases, requests for proposals, bid solicitations, and other documents are fully funded with federal money.

Formerly Workforce Connection, CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion is one of nearly 600 business-led local workforce development boards created by the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998 and, as of July 1, 2015, operating under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2014.

WIOA establishes an integrated, job-driven public workforce system that connects diverse talent to businesses and adopts a broad perspective for talent development by linking with economic development, educational institutions, and other community-based organizations for comprehensive planning, collaboration, and service delivery.

The nation’s workforce development system covers all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Territories. In February 2014, Florida’s workforce system launched a single, statewide unified brand to better align the state workforce investment board, 24 local area workforce development boards (21 effective July 1, 2024) and a network of nearly 100 career centers. The unified brand is designed to facilitate consistent, seamless services throughout the state. At the same time, local areas continue to offer customized services to meet the unique needs of businesses and job seekers in our communities.

Services such as career counseling, workshops and job placement are available, at no charge, at career centers in Chiefland, Lecanto and Ocala as well as our affiliate Talent Center in partnership with the College of Central Florida on CF’s Ocala campus. Services are also available through CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion’s mobile career center and community workshops and placement services offered at area library branches, community centers and colleges.

CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion has been recognized as a demand-driven workforce board by the National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB) and the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration for efforts to define its mission in relation to the demands of the business communities it serves.
