Free event helps businesses hire ‘next generation’ workforce
OCALA, Fla. (April 25, 2023) – CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion has partnered once again with the Levy County School District to host a Youth Job Fair on Thursday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to noon at the College of Central Florida’s Jack Wilkinson Levy Campus, 15390 US 19, located slightly north of Chiefland.
Specifically for 16-to-24-year-olds, the free event is ideal for students, graduating seniors and postsecondary graduates looking for full- or part-time employment, whether permanent, temporary, or just for the summer.
Those planning to attend should register at tinyurl.com/YouthJobsLevy
Dale French, executive vice president for CareerSource CLM, said that “area businesses taking part in the job fair can gain access to their ‘next generation’ of workers and for Levy County’s older youth and young adults, this is an opportunity to find your first job, gain more experience, or find a pathway toward a new career.”
French said that 15-20 businesses – all with immediate jobs to fill – are expected to take part and to date include Capital City Bank, Cross City Correctional Institution, Farmers Furniture, FedEx, Florida Department of Transportation, Fun 4 Kids 2, and the Levy County Sheriff’s Office.
Businesses interested in learning how to take part in the fee-free job fair – or in placing job orders if unable to attend – should contact the CareerSource CLM business development team at 800-746-9950, ext. 1145.
Christopher Cowart, superintendent of Levy County public schools, said, “We are thankful for the cooperation and partnership of CareerSource in providing an avenue for not only our current students but also those former students who may want to explore other options for career advancement.”
While the School Board of Levy County is co-hosting the event, it is open to older youth/young adults throughout the area.
Attendees should bring printed copies of their resume and be prepared for on-the-spot job interviews. Proper dress will be required – no flip-flops or casual sandals, T-shirts with profane or obscene language or images, no shorts or jeans with rips or holes, or any article of clothing that is too tight, too short or revealing.
Those interested in developing or updating their resume, working on interview skills and/or receiving job fair preparation tips are encouraged to visit the Levy County Career Center in the Suwannee Plaza (Walmart Supercenter), 2175 NW 11th Dr., right off North Young Boulevard in Chiefland. It is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and all job candidate services are available at no charge.
CareerSource CLM career centers are also available in Citrus County (Lecanto) and Marion County (Ocala).
