OCALA, Fla. (Aug. 19, 2022) – The July unemployment rate in the CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion region was 3.6% in July, a 0.2 percentage point decrease over the month and 1.8 percentage points lower than the year ago rate of 5.4%.
The labor force was 208,813, up 2,255 over the year. There were 201,216 employed across the region an increase of 5,858 compared to the same time last year, and 7,597 unemployed residents in the region, which was 3,603 fewer than in July 2021.
“We have an overall growth in both labor force and employment in our area,” said Rusty Skinner, CEO of CareerSource CLM. “This is a time for monthly fluctuations, but compared to one year ago, our workforce is strong.”
According to preliminary employment data released by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, Levy County continued to hold the lowest unemployment rate in the region at 3.3% followed by Marion County at 3.5% and Citrus County at 4.2%.
In the continuing effort to match job seekers with businesses with immediate hiring needs, CareerSource CLM will hold a general job fair on Sept. 22 from 3-5 p.m. at the College of Central Florida Klein Center.
Skinner added that “for those looking for work but finding themselves in need of training, CareerSource CLM offers several online programs that allow people top access training at their convenience.”
Those include Metrix Learning’s SkillUp that offers both basic skills and career skills as well as Valor/180 Skills which provides training with a strong concentration on manufacturing-related skills.
“These allow those seeking employment as well as those seeking employment advancement, to schedule their learning around their work and family obligations,” Skinner said.
