The Targeted Resume Workshop is designed for individuals that have already created a basic foundational resume. Targeted resumes are created on a job specific basis. They highlight the unique skills and fit of the individual for the position of Interest. Workshop attendees should create one or more basic resumes that are available in MS Word format prior to attendance.
Navigating Today's World of Work - 10 a.m., second Wednesday of each month
This workshop is designed to inform career seekers about new strategies re-quired to more effectively market their skills and qualifications for job openings. In addition, career seekers are presented with strategies and tools that will allow them to prepare for interviews.
Tips for Federal Jobs - 1 p.m., second Thursday of each month
Attendees will learn about helpful tips and strategies related to seeking federal employment. They will learn how to navigate the USA Jobs website when seeking career opportunities with the Federal Government. In addition, they will learn about important differences between creating resumes for public sector positions verses the private sector.
Soft Skills for 21st Century Work Success - 10 a.m., third Wednesday of each month
Soft skills are a combination of interpersonal people skills, social skills, communication skills, character traits, attitudes, career attributes and emotional intelligence factors that enable people to work effectively with others and serve customers. Attendees at this workshop will spend an hour discussing soft skills basics and strategies for using emotional intelligence on the job.
Using Social Media in Your Job Search - 10 a.m., fourth Wednesday of each month
Using social media in your job search is about linking yourself into the technological world of social media sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter . Using social media sites as a networking tool can help you find unofficial job postings or find out about job openings through your online connections at the companies you are most interested in. Social media has become a way for professionals to network and "meet" hundreds of people.
Nail that Interview - 1 p.m., fourth Wednesday of each month
This workshop is designed for individuals who are committed to Improving their interviewing skills. In the first part of the workshop, participants will review interviewing basics Including the various types of interviews; interview preparation; dressing for success; and how to re-spond to the “tell me about yourself” question. In the second part of the workshop, participants will be paired with a Career Source Professional and experience a mock interview and receive suggestions on areas of improvement.
Workplace Communication Skills for ESL Learners - 3 p.m., fourth Wednesday of each month
There are unwritten rules that are followed when speaking English. These unwritten rules are often referred to as workplace communication skills when referring to employment. Good workplace communication skills use can help you communicate effectively. Incorrect workplace communication can cause problems at work, cause people to ignore you, or, at best, send the wrong message.
